Euro 2004 tops the Super Bowl in ratings

The soccer matches from Euro 2004 topped ratings for the Super Bowl, drawing close to 100 million viewers. I was under the impression that the World Cup final was always the most watched sporting event (despite the article asserting that this honor was held by the Super Bowl).
